WARDOGS FOB Guide — Build & Defend Bases
How to build a FOB in WARDOGS: placement rules, build order, the tower-fuel drill connection, AA and mortar choices, and the mistakes that get bases deleted.

The FOB — Forward Operating Base — is WARDOGS's deployable heartbeat: a buildable base that anchors your faction's presence, spawns teammates, and powers the tower drill that decides late games. This guide merges the Steam community guide "how to build a fob," MetaForge's deployable database and PCGamesN's building coverage into one practical build order.
What a FOB needs before it exists
Building anything requires a Builder's Radio and build supplies, with structures finished by Support-line hammer tools (small, medium and large — the Large Hammer is a one-time $75,000 unlock in Season 1 per community tables). Supplies come as build-supply pallets you haul or deliver. None of this is officially documented in detail, but the item structure is confirmed across MetaForge's buildables and storage databases.
Placement: tower versus terrain
The classic advice is "build your FOB at a tower" — captured towers give high ground and are the drill's power source. But the Steam FOB guide opens with a correction: you do not always need to build by a tower; anywhere the terrain gives an advantage works, and FOBs on ridgelines or chokepoints can be unkillable. The rule of thumb from both sources: tower FOBs when you want the drill, terrain FOBs when you want defense.
Build order that survives contact
The community guide's sequence, translated from its colorful original:
- The door first. Gates and doors are the number-one failure point — close them, lock them, and check before opening (Reddit's gate-camping PSAs exist for a reason).
- Walls for the perimeter. Sandbag walls, Bremer walls and H-blocks keep snipers and climbing vehicles out; build to deny terrain, not to enclose the maximum area.
- Anti-air: Talon 9K SAM over the C-RAM. The guide is blunt — the Vanguard CIWS ("C-RAM") underperforms compared to the Talon 9K SAM for base defense. Solo-source opinion, but widely repeated.
- Mortars for counter-battery. If you do not build mortars at a tower FOB, enemy mortar fire on your drill is unanswered. Drill rigs themselves are high-XP structures and the point of the exercise.
- Fuel the drill. A FOB at a captured tower must hold fuel supplies for the Hot Zone Magnet to keep running — fuel runs out or the FOB dies, the Hot Zone drifts back.
Mistakes that get bases deleted
- Building a giant wall and nothing else — no mortars means free hits for enemy artillery.
- Spamming random structures for XP: random builds give Support XP but do not help the faction, and they waste supplies the guide authors explicitly tell you to save.
- Leaving tower doors open for "that one Manticore player with a double-barrel shotgun" to slip inside.
