WARDOGS Loadout Guide — Kits & Ammo$
How to build a WARDOGS loadout: FMJ vs HP vs AP ammo, armor and backpack slots, budget kit sizing and the death-tax rule that protects your bank.
Last updated
A WARDOGS loadout is a promise you make to your future corpse: everything you carry can be gone in thirty seconds, so every slot must earn its price. This guide covers the kit system confirmed by the official store page and community guides — weapon, ammo type, armor, storage and utility — and the sizing rules that keep one death from ruining your bank.
The three ammo types and when to buy each
Ammo choice is the most misunderstood part of the loadout screen. Community guides and MetaForge's ammunition database agree on the framework:
- FMJ — general-purpose standard rounds. Default choice when you do not know what you will meet.
- HP (flesh damage) — maximum effect on unarmored targets, poor against armor. Buy it when you are hunting budget players.
- AP (armor piercing) — built for armored players and vehicles. Expensive, situational, devastating in the right fight.
The common mistake is buying AP "to be safe." AP costs more per magazine and is wasted on the unarmored players who make up most early-game encounters — match the ammo to the lobby, not to your anxiety.
Armor, helmets and storage
Armor comes in levels 1 through 4 (with matching helmets), and durability is visible on your HUD — armor breaks, it does not slowly weaken your protection in steps. Community unlock tables place Level 1 gear at career level 3, Level 2 around level 30, Level 3 around level 60 and Level 4 near level 100, with each piece purchased per loadout after its one-time unlock.
Backpacks and vests define how much you can carry. The practical community rule: loose ammo beats spare magazines — loose rounds take less backpack space than mags, so the same slots hold more total rounds. Storage items from the database (assault packs, operator backpacks, tac vests) trade weight for capacity; a cheap kit with a small pack is fine, an expensive kit with no medkit is not.
The budget sizing rule
Because cash persists between matches and death costs the whole kit, loadout sizing is a bank-management problem:
- Grinding life: free rifle + base ammo + no armor. Expected cost near zero, expected value: one Control Zone tick run.
- Standard life: T-21 or AK74, FMJ, Level 1-2 armor, medkit. This is the workhorse kit once your bank clears ~$15,000.
- Push life: FAL or M4, mixed ammo, Level 3 armor, full utility. Only when the Hot Zone is on your tower and the win is close.
If a loadout costs more than about a third of your bank, treat it as a special occasion, not a default.
Common loadout mistakes
- Rebuying yesterday's expensive kit on autopilot after a loss — the beginner guide calls this the fastest way to the poorhouse.
- Carrying AP everywhere and FMJ nowhere; see the ammo table above.
- Ignoring weight: a heavy pack slows your rotation into the Hot Zone, and being late to the zone costs more points than the extra mag was worth.
- Forgetting that weapons must match your class line — a Support player carrying a Recon rifle levels neither. The classes guide has the mapping.
Where to go next
Pick the gun first with the best guns tier list, then fund it with the make money guide. If you keep losing kits at towers, the problem may be positioning, not equipment — read the towers and codes guide before your next big purchase.
